HOMA BAY COUNTY PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD GETS NEW COMMISSIONER.

COMMISSIONER ODUNDO SWORN IN
Homa Bay County Public Service Board today officially got a new commissioner, Tobias Odundo on a 6 year – term.
Commissioner Odundo was sworn in by the County Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ochilo at the governor’s office compound in a brief ceremony.
Governor Awiti challenged the new commissioner to put into practice, the resourcefulness and good teamwork abilities that he possessed to ensure the continual functioning of the public service board.
Commissioner Odundo previously chaired a medical board at Sindo sub-county hospital and got employed to the public service board after the demise of Commissioner Joseph Manyala -who also hails from Suba- last year.
Odundo promised to be a team player and work in consultation with his colleagues during his term of service.
The function was attended by County Assembly Majority leader, Michael Ooro, county executives, county assembly leaders and the public.

Relief to Nyakwere traders in homa bay county as the construction of the modern market kicks off.

Homa Bay Governor H.E Cyprian Awiti has partnered with UN HABITAT to upgrade Nyakwere market to a modern market facility that will create more jobs.

The market set to undergo construction and upgrading at the cost of Sh51 million, will be upscaled in three phases within four months.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at wang’chieng ward, Governor Awiti announced his government’s plans to upgrade 12 key markets across the county, through partnership with the private sector, national government and development partners.

The Governor said once the project is complete, trading days will be on daily basis aside from the usual market days.

Awiti thanked UNHABITAT for their continued collaboration with the county government which has yielded numerous benefits for the county.

Kenya’s permanent representative to the UN HABITAT Prof. Sam Ongeri thanked the county government for working collectively with the national government to fast-track development.

The Prof. said the project will address rampant poverty and inequality and will decongest major cities once completed successfully.

He said although politics and development go hand in hand, people should cease from scuttling the project because it touches on the future of the people of Homa Bay.

On the ongoing voter registration exercise, Prof. Ongeri appealed to those yet to register as voters to do the necessary as this is an individual right.

County Trade Chief executive Prof. Ogada, Transport executive Nicholas K’oriko, Chief Officer Evans Abeka, MCA’s, aspirants among others were present at the ceremony.

Mass Voter Registration kicks off in style in homa bay County

Governor Awiti today convened a stakeholders meeting to officially kick-off the mass voter registration drive at tourist hotel in Homa Bay town. All elected leaders, aspirants and ODM party officials joined the 30 day campaign to kick-start the drive to ensure 200,000 potential voters are fully registered for the 2017 elections.
The Governor made a special appeal to everyone to take part in a door-to-door voter mobilization campaign to reach the intended voter registration target.
“We must all go out and work seamlessly as a team for the sake of our party leader,” said Awiti.
ODM party Chairman John Mbadi urged all leaders to work closely with people from their respective regions to ensure a target of at least 200 voters being registered in a day is reached.
Commissioner Gladys Wanga pledged to follow up the 10,000 identity cards that are still in Nairobi belonging to the people of Homa Bay County.
All county aspirants and elected leaders vowed to put aside their differences to focus on the big task ahead.

EACC CONCLUDES WEEK LONG PROGRAMME BY SIGNING ACTION PLANS WITH COUNTY HEADS

The Ethics & Anti-corruption Commission today concluded a one-week awareness and sensitization programme at a public baraza held at Jamawego grounds in Homa Bay County. The Commission engaged the county leaders and members of the public on issues of leadership, integrity and anti-corruption so as to provide them with the necessary support to combat and prevent corruption. Action Plans were signed by both the County Government and County Assembly as a show of commitment to implement anti-corruption activities and ensure that the county remains committed to combating and preventing corruption in all areas.
H.E Governor Cyprian Otieno Awiti urged residents of Homa Bay County to support the fight against corruption by playing their role in holding leaders & reporting any incidences to the EACC authorities instead of maliciously attacking individuals. He urged public officers to be role models and not participate in corrupt and unethical practices.
Deputy Governor H.E Hamilton Orata, Speaker Rt. Hon Samuel Ochillo, Cabinet Executives, Chief Officers, Members of the County Assembly were among guests present at the ceremony.

HOMA BAY COUNTY GOVERNOR H.E. CYPRIAN AWITI KICK-STARTS ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN

The Governor H.E Cyprian Awiti today kick started the Ethics & Anti-corruption public outreach campaign that will be running till the 23rd of September 2016.
The one week programme will sensitize both the public and government officials by creating awareness and reviewing the system to tackle loopholes.
The programme was launched by EACC commissioners Dr. Abdi Maalim and his team jointly with H.E Governor Cyprian Awiti and his cabinet. The Speaker County Assembly Hon. Samuel Ochillo was present during the launch, accompanied by Members of the County Assembly.
The Governor urged the public to come join the fight against corruption and also reiterated the Government’s commitment to fight graft.

STOP PANICKING OVER 2022 GUBERNATORIAL RACE IN HOMA BAY COUNTY

Homa Bay County Assembly Clerk Hon. Bob Kephas said that he will be keen on 2017 politics for the re-election of the incumbent Governor. H.E. Cyprian Awiti , he added that in 2022 he will consider himself to vie for the same position since the constition allows him for the same irrespective of the region he resides in. He said this after receiving attacks from politicians who fear him on ballot come 2022. Hon. Kephas is currently the county assembly clerk in Homa Bay county where he has set clear records of leadership and quality management skills. He is a threat to leaders who sees a free ground and a walk in the park come 2022 and they are now said to be panicking all over the county some even plan for his impeachment from the office.
" 2022 politics will settle themselves and the people will have humble time to elect a leader of their choice, I will present myself to the people and if they will say no, then I will have no option but to concede defeat, therefore, I will also request the same from my opponents. " said Hon. Kephas
