Winnie Mireri,
Interim secretary, Homabay County Youth Alliance.
We the youths of Homabay County have come to realize that we have so
many resources, so much potential and very intellectuals that can make
the county a success and be an example to the rest of the country. These
resources have been of fundamental importance though we find that in
the past years they have been mismanaged or neglected as if they never
existed hence affecting climate change.
Homabay county is a very beautiful county consisting of different
attractive sceneries such as the beautiful Lake Victoria, Lake Simbi,
Ruma National Park including so many hills that attract tourists. We
also have beautiful birds such as flamingoes and pelicans. We are also
privileged to be participating in agribusiness which has been a source
of income.
Because of the shortcomings we have seen in the management of our
resources, we have decided that we as the youths are not going to watch
our county deteriorate. For this reason, we have decided to create the
group known as Homabay County Youth Alliance in order to help us save
our county from ‘dying.’
This group was formed on the 4th of October 2013 at a
seminar with the Kenya Young Greens at Staridge hotel in Homabay town.
We really appreciate the help and support of the leaders of Kenya Young
Green such as Ann Bulimu, Lance Orwa, Meshak Koballa and Eston Nyakiya.
Our great gratitude goes to the consultant Peter K’ochupe who was of
great help to the group throughout the entire training. To our guests,
Hon. Dorothy Atieno Okello, minister for tourism, culture and sports,
her colleague and Mr.Kennedy Ongeko, the county Transition Co-ordinator,
thank you for coming and we hope you will help us achieve our dream.
Finally, the interim committee would like to thank everyone who
proposed for their leadership and we are glad for seeing the potential
in us. We would like to encourage each and every individual who took
part in this to work hard for its success. Let us empower the youth
because we are the light of our generation and may we also encourage
others to join us in the campaign for a better Homabay county. May God
bless you all. CHEERS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED!!!!!!!!
