Four armed robbery suspects were shot dead yesterday by the police in Ugunja. Police recovered an assortment of weapons from the suspects. The four are said to have been planning a robbery at a supermarket in the town. The public alerted undercover officers who responded. Ugunja deputy county commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia said the four were trying to flee when they were gunned down. “On sensing danger the suspects engaged police in a fierce gun battle before they were felled at Ngunya market,” Lotiatia said. He said police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a Ceska pistol, fake vehicle registration number plates, a stolen driving license and 18 bullets. The bodies were taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital Mortuary and the vehicle they were using, which police suspect was stolen, was towed to Ugunja divisional police headquarters. Lotiatia called on the public to embrace ‘Nyumba Kumi’ to support police effort in tackling crime.
